Updated: Mar 11, 2019

A balance of sweetness, chocolate and a subtle hint of cardamom.

If you are like me and get those craving for chocolate but don't want to feel the guilt of  eating a sweet treat, these are just for you.  A balance of sweetness, chocolate and a subtle hint of cardamom you wont believe that they are made with black beans. I bet you that if you don't tell friends and family they would never guess the secret ingredient of black beans.  I use dairy free chocolate chips but feel free to use regular or throw in some toffee bits. These treats are simple to make and can be enjoyed without the guilt.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups black beans or 1 15oz can drained and rinsed very well

2 1/2 Tbsp cocoa powder

1/3 cup quick oats

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup melted coconut oil

2 tsp pure vanilla extract

1/2 tsp  baking powder

1 tsp of cardamom

pinch of sea salt

2/3 cup mini chocolate chips or 1/2 cup regular chocolate chips

*Optional extra 1/4 chocolate chips for on top

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 F and grease an 8x8 baking pan.

In a food processor combine all of the ingredients except the chocolate chips.

Blend in food processor until smooth batter like consistency.  If the consistency is thin add a few more quick oats a little at a time to reach a thicker consistency.

Stir in chocolate chips and pour the batter into the greased 8x8 pan.

*Optional sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.

Cook the brownies for 18-20 minutes until firm.  Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes. If they still seem under-cooked you can place in fridge and they will firm up and be perfectly fine.

Cut into desired pieces and enjoy.
